I was lucky enough to read about Magda Gerber and RIE early in my journey as a parent which encourages the same approach. It takes some confidence as a parent - mine both walked 'late' but it was a delight to watch them learn to roll, crawl and walk. My older son in particular spent a couple of weeks doing almost nothing but practising falling over just before he walked for the first time. I think once he knew that he could fall over safely, he was happy to try walking!

ahh i havent read any of Gerber's direct work but her student Janet Lansbury has been a huge influence on my wife and me. So very grateful for her work around RIE. even still, it's so hard to stay confident in the patient approach as we're experiencing again with our second child as he explores movement development in his own sweet time and unique way :)

Last year, I was hanging out with my friend in their apartment. Her ~1 year old was there and she was right at that age where she was taking her first steps.

It was... a masterclass in moving your body.

I was completely mesmerised at watching this kid use ALL parts of her foot, come up from a squat, stumble, fall, and try again
